About The Position

The Medical Services Division (MSD) is seeking a Coordinator for Student Medical Services (SMS) and Medi-Cal Programs Branch. This position, classified as 39G (School Support Administrator, 0515), provides essential administrative and operational support to 15 LAUSD-staffed clinics. The role is assigned to two School Enrollment Placement and Assessment (SEPA) centers. The Coordinator reports to the Director of Student Medical Services & Medi-Cal Programs.

Requirements

  • Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District
  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s)
  • At least three (3) years of successful, full-time public school service in a non-classroom position(s) with assigned responsibilities directly related to pupil attendance services, student counseling, school social work, student discipline, or health services
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework

Nice To Haves

  • A valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential or a valid California School Nurse Services Credential
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures, goals, objectives, and organizational structure and functions
  • Knowledge of public and private resources working in coordination with the educational system and District staff
  • Demonstrated successful experience composing appropriate written communications and materials, including District policy guides, reference guides, or memorandums
  • Experience advocating for the educational rights of targeted at-risk students including, but not limited to, students in foster care or involved in the juvenile justice system, students experiencing homelessness, pregnant and parenting teens, and other underserved or at-risk populations
  • Experience coordinating student health programs
  • Experience supervising and evaluating staff
  • Capacity to work independently while providing detailed updates on progress
  • Strong project management skills, particularly, when managing multiple responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Supervises assigned staff with implementation of SEPA centers
  • Oversees the operations of the District’s clinics run by physicians, nurse practitioners, and medical assistants
  • Coordinates and oversees staff development and implementation of trainings and topics such as educational rights of identified student populations (e.g., students experiencing homelessness, students in the foster care system, immigration, and other underserved groups); multi-tiered systems of support to improve well-being, attendance and achievement; evidence-based, trauma/resilience informed practices and interventions; use of data; and District policies
  • Provides Welligent training and updates for job-specific Medical Services Division staff
  • Ensures documentation and data collection are completed by all staff, including monitoring and implementation of quality assurance processes and protocols specific to program and service objectives
  • Assists the branch with the development and maintenance of audit documentation in alignment with the state and federal regulations
  • Assists District personnel, community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and other concerned parties in the development, promotion, and maintenance of internal and external District services or programs
  • Reviews and provides input into proposed and existing legislation, rules, and regulations; assist in the development, interpretation, and implementation of District policies, plans, and procedures
  • Assists the Director, Student Medical Services with the compilation and analysis of data for the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), Strategic Plan, and other state and District reports
  • Provides direct support and consultation to District staff and community-based organizations regarding student enrollment for newcomers
  • Performs other duties as assigned
