About The Position

The purpose of this position is to prepare meats, vegetables, soups, sauces, vegetables, baked goods, salads, etc. which are of good quality, safe, and nutritious for regular and modified diets. This position reports to the Dietary Supervisor. Each cook works cooperatively with other positions in the kitchen in providing high quality food for patients, cafeteria customers, and special functions in a positive environment. The incumbent completes the work procedures and priorities within the imposed time frame.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum one (1) year experience in healthcare or institutional cooking preferred.
Must have basic food preparation skills.
Must be able to handle food in a safe and sanitary manner.
Must be able to adjust to changing production needs and work closely with a variety of people for extended periods of time.
Successful completion of the pre-employment health screening process required.
Must be able to attend the work site per schedule.
Food Safety Certification or willingness to complete.
Meet company expectations of being able to work independently at times.

Responsibilities

Prepares and cooks high-quality meals for patients, cafeteria service, and special functions according to standardized recipes, menus, portion-control guidelines, and HACCP food-safety standards.
Ensures accurate measuring, cooking, temperature monitoring, presentation, and timely production while minimizing waste and controlling costs.
Maintains a safe, sanitary, and efficient kitchen operation by properly storing and labeling food, utilizing leftovers appropriately, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work areas, safely operating kitchen equipment, monitoring supplies, and reporting safety or equipment concerns.
Assists with cafeteria service, recipe development, menu planning, and special food preparation.
Willingness to be cross trained to other positions to assist as needed.
