About The Position

The Cook assists the Chef or General Manager by preparing, cooking, and serving food. The role prepares meals according to recipes, daily menus, and supervisor instructions, and helps ensure kitchen operations are clean, safe, functional, and economical. The Cook operates a food station, maintains station records and signage, and helps obtain supplies and equipment based on anticipated needs.

Requirements

• Partial high school education required.
• Culinary knowledge.
• Food safety certification and strong sanitation habits.
• Strong customer service abilities, including actively looking for ways to assist customers and coworkers.
• Ability to recognize when a problem has occurred and communicate it to management.
• Ability to read and write work-related documents in English.
• Ability to understand and clearly speak English with customers and coworkers.
• Ability to communicate constantly with other employees in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Ability to perform the physical demands of the job, including standing for the entire workday, climbing steps regularly, moving about frequently, bending, reaching, and lifting, carrying, or pushing loads up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to withstand temperature extremes in freezer, refrigerator walk-in, and grill areas.
• Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook food items according to recipes, daily menus, and supervisor instructions.
• Clean and inspect kitchen equipment, appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.
• Operate a food station, including completing the station checklist and temperature log, participating in counter meetings, and maintaining signage.
• Requisition food supplies, kitchen equipment, and appliances based on estimates of future needs.
• Monitor menus and spending to ensure meals are prepared economically.
• Maintain awareness of safety issues and report them immediately to a manager.
