About The Position

The Cook performs assigned food preparation, serving, clean-up, and scanning tasks to meet or exceed the expectations of the immediate supervisor and customers. The role recognizes the mission, vision, and core values of the District and the Food & Nutrition Department. The position is located at the Middle School and reports to the Director of Food and Nutrition Services. Work hours are 7:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, with a 30-minute unpaid break. Employment is based on need, with hours assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain ServSafe certification and complete New Manager Training within the first six months to one year of employment.
• Ability to perform basic clerical and mathematical skills.
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete assigned work.
• Ability to provide work direction and respond to requests courteously and helpfully.
• Ability to work independently and/or lead a group in completing tasks and meeting goals.
• Ability to work harmoniously with staff, students, and the public.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of quantity cooking experience preferred.
• Experience supervising school food service operations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare food according to written menus, assignments, standardized recipes, or manufacturer instructions, applying food-preparation principles for quality and food safety; complete production records as instructed by the Head Cook.
• Calculate food and supply needs for the assigned area and provide the order to the Head Cook.
• Serve food according to portion-control instructions, CN Labels, and/or standardized recipes.
• Complete cleaning assignments according to HACCP SOPs and instructions from the Head Cook.
• Operate and clean kitchen equipment according to manufacturer instructions or directions from the Head Cook.
• Follow federal and state guidelines for serving reimbursable meals.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
