About The Position

The Cook prepares, produces, and presents a variety of foods, completes production sheets, and performs other food service activities. Depending on operational needs, the position may also be asked to perform janitorial or fleet service duties. The Cook may fill in for any general food service area position as needed and may assist other food service personnel.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Food Handler card or Alaska Food Workers card.
At least two years of directly related vocational training; candidates without such training need two additional years of related experience.
At least three years of directly related food preparation experience.
Ability to instruct and train others.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
For certain positions, a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for the past three years are required for eligibility under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.

Responsibilities

Perform main-line food production duties, with specific items determined by the assigned shift.
Review daily needs with assigned supervisors, complete production sheets, review maintenance reports, and verify supply needs and availability.
Assist supervisors with menu and recipe development.
Control food production quantity and quality and maintain sanitation in assigned areas.
Assist with supervising and training food service personnel.
Arrange for kitchen helpers or assistants to prepare smaller items.
Verify and oversee food serving lines, areas, and bars to ensure they are properly stocked, set up, and cleaned.
Fill in for general food service area positions as needed.
Observe and instruct others on proper rotation procedures for produce and dairy products.
Maintain food production equipment and storage areas according to sanitation, safety, and operational procedures.
Assist other food service personnel as needed.
Clean dishes and perform related cleaning duties.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
May perform janitorial or fleet service duties when requested.
