About The Position

The Cook I prepares food of consistent quality and assists with kitchen functions at The Westin Cleveland Downtown. The position follows recipe cards and production and portion standards, prepares items ahead of time according to estimated needs, and helps maintain food storage, kitchen setup, buffet stock, food cost controls, and equipment cleanliness. The role requires availability on weekends and evenings.

Requirements

Finger and hand dexterity to operate food machinery, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to grasp, lift, carry, or otherwise move goods weighing up to 100 lbs. on a continuous schedule, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences, including supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
Must be available to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

Prepare food of consistent quality following recipe cards and production and portion standards, per server checks.
Start food items prepared ahead of time while avoiding over-preparation.
Date food containers and rotate food according to HEI Hotels and Resorts standards, keeping perishables at proper temperatures.
Check pars for shift use and determine preparation, freezer pulls, and line setup needed.
Note out-of-stock items and possible shortages.
Assist in keeping the buffet stocked.
Return unused food items to designated storage areas for the next shift, covering and dating perishables.
Assist with plans and actions to address food cost problems and control food waste, loss, and usage.
Operate, maintain, and properly clean kitchen equipment.
Comply with attendance rules and be available to work regularly.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
