About The Position

Join Cleveland Clinic’s Mercy Hospital, where patient care is world-class and caregivers are supported as part of a respected healthcare organization. Mercy Hospital serves communities in and around Stark County. The Cook/Baker cooks and prepares a variety of food for patients, caregivers, special events, and visitors, helping meet nutritional needs.

This is a full-time position working either 10:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m. or 11:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m., with every other weekend and holiday required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of prior cooking experience preparing a variety of menu items.
• Knowledge of proper food handling, preparation, and storage.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work with food preparation equipment.
• High degree of dexterity for food preparation, plate assembly, and garnishing.
• Ability to work in an environment with possible extreme temperature changes.
• Visual acuity and ability to distinguish colors used in a coded dating system.
• Exposure to chemicals used for cleaning and sanitizing.
• Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.

Nice To Haves

• Successful completion of a formal cook training program or at least three years of related experience.
• Successful completion of a culinary certification program.

Responsibilities

• Review menus and special orders to determine the types and quantities of food to prepare.
• Follow standardized recipes when preparing food.
• Plan cooking schedules with a supervisor and/or dietitian to ensure food is ready at specified times.
• Consult with dietitians about modified-diet preparation and the use of leftovers.
• Follow HACCP guidelines for food storage, handling, and preparation, and for sanitation and maintenance of the work area.
