About The Position

Cook 1 assists with basic food preparation and meal service in a university dining environment. The role serves and maintains food quantities for large numbers of people and helps set up, break down, and maintain independent serveries. It also provides support for catered functions and retail operations, offers guidance to student employees, and assists with stocking and dishwashing as requested. The Cook 1 participates in training and other departmental requirements, maintains a well-groomed appearance in the proper issued uniform, and performs other duties as requested.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Six months of culinary experience preferred.
• Ability to operate and maintain production equipment and kitchen equipment.
• Basic knife skills.
• Knowledge of basic cooking methods.
• Knowledge of proper and safe food-handling times and temperatures.
• Good customer service skills.
• Ability to work well independently and within a team.
• Serve-Safe certification, or ability to become certified.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Ability to occasionally push and pull wheeled equipment weighing up to 150 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Six months of culinary experience preferred.
