About The Position

Tech-Wood Building Components Ltd. is seeking a Controller to join their growing team. This role is a key partner to the VP Finance, working closely with a small accounting team to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, drive process improvements, and translate financial data into actionable business decisions. The Controller will oversee financial oversight and compliance, budgeting and forecasting, accounting and reporting, team leadership, and process improvement and systems management.

Requirements

  • CPA designation completed or actively in progress
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in manufacturing or construction
  • A full-cycle accounting operator
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn financial data into clear business insights
  • Comfortable in Sage or a similar mid-market accounting platform
  • Advanced Excel — formulas, pivot tables, financial modeling
  • A communicator who can explain complex financials to non-finance leaders without the jargon
  • High regard for confidentiality, and data integrity

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial statements — balance sheets, income statements, and supporting schedules
  • Maintain compliance with ASPE, tax regulations, and internal financial policies
  • Coordinate external audits, liaising with auditors and regulatory agencies
  • Oversee financial controls and risk management frameworks
  • Manage financial budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to support business planning and growth
  • Prepare cash flow analysis and financial modeling to support executive decision-making
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting — AP, AR, and general ledger functions
  • Support AP and AR tasks when the team needs it
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and file GST, payroll remittances, and other regulatory filings
  • Manage and continuously improve financial reporting systems
  • Mentor and develop the finance team — feedback, training, and day-to-day support
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and improve processes
  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance financial processes and drive cost savings
  • Oversee accounting software implementation, upgrades, and integrations
  • Leverage automation tools to streamline operations and improve efficiency
