About The Position

The Content & Communications Specialist will be tasked with interviewing, writing and editing stories that will feature the people, places, agencies, organizations, initiatives and current events happening in our Jewish community. Stories will primarily appear in print and online in our publication, the Jewish Community Voice, but may appear in other publications and outlets such as websites, brochures, e-newsletters and other marketing materials for JFSNJ and our family of agencies. Creativity and innovation are of the utmost importance, as are meticulous attention to detail in interviewing, editing, proofing, etc. You must be driven by problem-solving, adaptability, proactivity, strategic thinking and deadlines, all while being approachable, warm and professional.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in journalism, publishing, creative writing, or at least 5 years of commensurate field experience in a media-focused organization.
  • Strong organizational skills are required; the ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail and is deadline-oriented

Responsibilities

  • Strong interpersonal and interview skills, and ability to identify and craft compelling stories relevant to readership.
  • Meticulous attention to detail for editing, punctuation, grammar and factual accuracy.
  • Strength in writing in AP style.
  • Strong commitment to accuracy, integrity and ethical journalism.
  • Ability to implement and delegate new ideas and best practices for existing and new communications and marketing strategies.
  • Prioritization in managing deadlines and tasks – project management experience is a plus.
  • Analyze website analytics to inform current and future editorial decisions.
  • Attends and covers community events and programs on assignment.
  • Develop new ideas for stories, columns, and other marketing related tactics.
  • Edit pre-written material, including but not limited to wire stories (JTA) and press releases and articles submitted by JFSNJ agencies and other outside organizations.
  • Play an integral role in growing the online presence for the Voice, including the cultivation of online-only content.
  • Monitor breaking news stories – nationally, internationally and locally and ability to be flexible when breaking news arises.
  • Work with Jewish Federation Chief Marketing Officer and various leadership on stories and projects, as necessary.
  • Attend Voice, Marketing & Publications and JFSNJ meetings and programs.
