About The Position

Primetals Technologies USA LLC is hiring a Consulting Power Engineer in Alpharetta, Georgia. The role involves engineering, designing, and integrating High Voltage (HV) Substation, Static VAR Compensator (SVC), and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) projects. The engineer applies power systems engineering and power electronics principles to regulate system voltage, improve power quality, and mitigate electrical flicker. Work includes SVC sizing and design calculations, as well as Arc Furnace compatibility studies to assess SVC system feasibility. The position develops basic and detailed engineering packages for HV substations, including Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Three Line Diagrams (TLD), equipment layouts, and Bills of Materials (BOM). It also includes reviewing installation and civil drawings; performing steady-state and transient power system analysis; and providing relay settings for substation protection equipment, TCRs, filters, and other SVC equipment. The engineer performs preventive maintenance on SVC and STATCOM systems and provides technical support and troubleshooting during commissioning, installation, testing, and outages, including fault analysis and root-cause resolution. The engineer works with proposal teams, customers, vendors, and project managers to establish technical requirements, negotiate technical terms with sub-vendors, and ensure equipment meets quality and technical standards while adhering to project budgets and schedules. The role applies NESC, NEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards to equipment specification, evaluation, and substation integration. Minimum education and experience: A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related field plus 7 years of progressively responsible post-bachelor's experience in electrical engineering or a related area; alternatively, a master's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related field plus 5 years of experience in electrical engineering or a related area. The employer states that it will accept any amount of experience with the required skills.
