About The Position

The Consultant, Software Engineering supports the design, development, operation, and continuous improvement of reusable enterprise AI platforms and services that help teams deliver trusted AI solutions at scale. Working within a cross-functional product and platform team, the role translates requirements into secure, reliable, and maintainable capabilities; applies strong software engineering practices; and contributes to shared patterns, reference architectures, controls, and accelerators. It also contributes to production readiness, service management, observability, supportability, and cost visibility for the capabilities it helps build and operate. The role calls for foundational expertise in software engineering and cloud technologies, a product and AI-first mindset, learning agility, collaboration skills, and ownership of operational outcomes amid ambiguity, including recognizing when to use a reusable platform capability rather than a one-off solution. The technical focus includes AWS AgentCore and AWS Bedrock; agent orchestration frameworks such as Strands; Model Context Protocol (MCP); model selection, evaluation, testing, versioning, deployment, monitoring, guardrails, and lifecycle management; token economics and AI cost optimization; reliability, observability, security, and cost controls; cloud-native APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, containers, IaC, CI/CD, and platform automation; and AI governance, security, responsible AI, and risk management. The position follows a hybrid schedule requiring in-office attendance two days per week in Columbus, Ohio (preferred), Des Moines, Iowa, or Scottsdale, Arizona. Current internal associates working remotely may also be considered. The role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization, and Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program. It is classified as exempt and is not eligible for overtime; associates may have on-call responsibility after normal working hours and/or on weekends. The position reports to a Technology Manager/Director.
