About The Position

As an experienced professional on GM’s Total Rewards and Global Mobility team, the Global Mobility Consultant independently leads the operational management, governance, and continuous improvement of domestic relocation programs and supports policy development and maintenance across all Global Mobility programs. The role applies professional expertise and independent judgment with minimal guidance to promote consistent policy application, a strong end-to-end employee experience, and alignment with business and workforce needs. The Consultant advises Human Resources, business leaders, employees, and relocation service providers on complex and non-standard matters. The role develops, recommends, and executes domestic relocation strategies and operating plans; establishes governance, service expectations, and reporting; and improves policies, processes, technology, and stakeholder experience. It owns the development and delivery of solutions, influences change across the function without direct authority, and serves as a resource to colleagues on complex matters. The position is remote, subject to an expectation to report to a GM hub three times a week or at another frequency set by the manager if the selected candidate lives within a specified radius of a hub. Travel is required less than 25% of the time. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related discipline.
  • At least 7 years of work experience in Global Mobility, international HR, or a related field.
  • Experience managing third-party vendors, building and maintaining effective relationships, and ensuring compliance and service delivery.
  • Prior experience leading and developing others through direct people management, indirect or project team leadership, coaching, or mentorship.
  • Policy project management and problem-solving skills supporting programs across Global Mobility, including immigration, compensation, and taxes.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and complexity in a large multinational company.
  • Ability to analyze issues or processes and develop robust recommendations or project outcomes.
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including company sponsorship or other immigration support.

Responsibilities

  • Own the execution, performance, and governance of domestic relocation programs, prioritizing work, managing risks, and delivering outcomes aligned with GM policies and business objectives.
  • Develop, recommend, and execute domestic relocation strategies, roadmaps, and operating plans that address workforce needs, business priorities, market conditions, and employee experience.
  • Translate policy changes, business requirements, and compliance considerations into implementation plans, operating procedures, playbooks, service standards, and stakeholder communications.
  • Use data, metrics, and operational insights to identify trends, risks, root causes, and improvement opportunities, and recommend solutions that strengthen policy effectiveness, service delivery, and governance.
  • Support policy review, development, maintenance, and implementation across Global Mobility programs, considering global consistency, business needs, and local requirements.
  • Research industry surveys, market data, peer benchmarks, and stakeholder feedback; identify best practices and develop leadership proposals for new or enhanced policies.
  • Support policy and program improvement initiatives from analysis through implementation, measure results, and apply lessons learned.
  • Provide consultation and training to Field HR, Talent Acquisition, managers, business leaders, and other stakeholders on relocation programs.
  • Translate complex or ambiguous policy requirements into practical guidance, clear recommendations, and actionable decisions.
  • Present policy and program recommendations using data and analysis, demonstrate the value of improvements, and address leaders’ concerns.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and relocation service providers, influencing outcomes through credibility and persuasion.
  • Collaborate with HR, Legal, Payroll, Tax, Technology, vendors, and business teams to align relocation delivery and policy changes with workforce and operational needs.
  • Independently manage broad, multi-stakeholder priorities while maintaining ownership of plans, communications, and outcomes.
  • Lead complex, unique, sensitive, and high-visibility domestic relocation cases in coordination with employees, HR, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate case circumstances, policy provisions, business needs, and employee impacts to develop practical recommendations for non-standard situations.
  • Resolve new or ambiguous problems using sound judgment and strategic thinking, and promptly escalate risks when additional expertise or decisions are needed.
  • Serve as an escalation point for HR, managers, employees, and relocation service providers.
  • Own solutions for escalations, exceptions, corrective actions, and stakeholder commitments; monitor resolution, capture lessons learned, and hold partners accountable.
  • Manage relocation service provider relationships and delivery expectations, monitor service quality and policy adherence, and drive vendor corrective actions and improvements.
  • Lead and support relocation program modernization, including process redesign, technology enhancements, change management, and operational excellence projects.
  • Seek employee and stakeholder feedback, identify friction points, and implement improvements to the end-to-end employee experience.
  • Participate in cross-program Global Mobility strategic initiatives and process improvements, and guide less-experienced colleagues on difficult issues.
