About The Position

Construction Materials Engineering Technicians are vital in ensuring construction projects, from local eateries to major sports venues, are built with quality and safety at the forefront. This role involves performing field and laboratory testing on construction materials like concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates. Whether you're new to the field or bring years of expertise, you'll receive hands-on training, mentorship, and opportunities to advance. Seasoned professionals can take on leadership roles, guiding projects and mentoring colleagues. The role requires flexibility in work hours based on project demands and weather, including early mornings, some Saturdays, and overtime. Occasional travel to support other offices is covered with per diem and lodging.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Basic math proficiency, including an understanding of measurements and units of weight.
  • Comfortable working both independently and with others.
  • Flexibility, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to high standards.
  • Candidates must comply with our Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Only candidates with valid employment eligibility (I-9) will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in construction is preferred but not required.
  • Associate degree in a related field preferred for advanced levels.
  • Associate Technician/Technician I: 0-2 years relevant experience.
  • Technician II: 2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with an associate degree.
  • Technician III: 3+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with an associate degree.
  • Technician IV: 5+ years of relevant experience; prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus.
  • Industry certifications such as American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician, and/or International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils).
  • The understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel.

Responsibilities

  • Performing field and laboratory testing on construction materials like concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
  • Collecting and preparing samples for analysis.
  • Interpreting test results and preparing detailed reports.
  • Working closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure all work meets specifications and safety guidelines.
