Construction Materials Engineering Technicians
About The Position
This role is for a Construction Materials Engineering Technician on the Construction Services team in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company, S&ME, is a civil engineering and consulting firm with over 50 years of experience in geotechnical, civil, environmental, and construction material testing. The technician will test concrete, soils, and asphalt to ensure the quality and safety of construction projects. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
- Basic math proficiency, including understanding of measurements and units of weight.
- Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel.
- Valid U.S. driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) valid for driving in the United States, with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to safely operate a company-assigned vehicle, including trucks and SUVs.
- Willingness to complete a background check, driving record check, and drug screen upon offer of employment.
- Candidates must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
- Only candidates with valid employment eligibility (I-9) will be considered.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience working in construction is preferred.
- Associate degree in a related field preferred for advanced levels.
- Active Industry certifications such as: American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician and/or International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector, Reinforced Concrete and Masonry.
- Prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus (for Technician IV).
Responsibilities
- Performing field and laboratory testing on construction materials like concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
- Collecting and preparing samples for analysis.
- Interpreting test results and preparing detailed reports.
- Working closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure all work meets specifications and safety guidelines.
