About The Position

This role is for a Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join the Construction Services team in Nashville, Tennessee, supporting the KY Locke project in Paducah, KY. The company, S&ME, has over 50 years of experience in civil engineering and consulting, specializing in geotechnical, environmental, and construction material testing. The position involves testing concrete, soils, and asphalt to ensure the quality and safety of construction projects. The work is primarily outdoors on construction sites, requiring travel and adherence to safety guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate Technician/Technician I: 0-2 years relevant experience
• Technician II: 2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with associate degree
• Technician III: 3+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with associate degree
• Technician IV: 5+ years of relevant experience; prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus
• Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)
• Basic math proficiency, including understanding of measurements and units of weight
• The understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel
• You have a valid U.S. driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) valid for driving in the United States, with an acceptable driving record
• You can safely operate a company-assigned vehicle, including trucks and SUVs
• You are willing to complete a background check, driving record check, and drug screen upon offer of employment

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working in construction is preferred but not required.
• Associate degree in a related field preferred for advanced levels
• Active Industry certifications such as: American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I, strongly preferred; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician and/or International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector, Reinforced Concrete and Masonry

Responsibilities

• Performing field and laboratory testing on construction materials like concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
• Collecting and preparing samples for analysis.
• Interpreting test results and preparing detailed reports.
• Working closely with engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure all work meets specifications and safety guidelines.
