About The Position

S&ME is seeking a Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join their Nashville, Tennessee Construction Services team, supporting the KY Locke project in Paducah, KY. This role involves testing concrete, soils, and asphalt to ensure the quality and safety of construction projects. The company has over 50 years of experience in geotechnical, civil, environmental, and construction material testing, serving various industries. The technician will perform field and laboratory testing, collect and prepare samples, interpret results, and prepare reports, collaborating with engineers, contractors, and project managers. The position is primarily outdoors on active construction sites, with variable schedules that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and overtime. Travel to Paducah, KY is required, with per diem provided. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in various conditions, walking on uneven terrain, standing for extended periods (up to 12 hours), and lifting 40-50 pounds.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in a related field preferred for advanced levels.
• 0-2 years relevant experience for Associate Technician/Technician I.
• 2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with associate degree for Technician II.
• 3+ years of relevant experience or equivalent with associate degree for Technician III.
• 5+ years of relevant experience; prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus for Technician IV.
• Active Industry certifications such as: American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I, strongly preferred; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician and/or International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector, Reinforced Concrete and Masonry.
• Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
• Basic math proficiency, including understanding of measurements and units of weight.
• Understanding of a fluctuating schedule and interest in occasional travel.
• Valid U.S. driver's license or an International Driving Permit (IDP) valid for driving in the United States, with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to safely operate a company-assigned vehicle, including trucks and SUVs.
• Willingness to complete a background check, driving record check, and drug screen upon offer of employment.
• Valid employment eligibility (I-9).

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working in construction is preferred but not required.
• Associate degree in a related field preferred for advanced levels.
• American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I, strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performing field and laboratory testing on construction materials like concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
