About The Position

Custom Manufacturing & Engineering, Inc. (CME) is seeking a Software Engineer to develop custom collaborative robot (cobot) control integrations, AI/ML applications, and related GUIs for advanced manufacturing and inspection environments. The role works with cobots, including UR eSeries, simulation platforms such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Gazebo/ROS2, and AI/ML tools to create scalable solutions that improve manufacturing automation and product quality. The position develops and supports in-house software applications for business and technical operations, including full-stack work to deploy, scale, and integrate machine learning models into user-facing applications. It also involves integrating internal AI/ML platforms with enterprise software, automating data pipelines, building cobot applications and simulation environments, and creating GUIs and reusable components for data pipelines and manufacturing dashboards. The engineer collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, and management teams and may support or lead small-team technical proposals and guide peers. The role supports mission-critical projects in defense, aerospace, industrial, and energy markets. CME describes its engineering team as collaborative and fast-moving and offers a four-day work week most weeks. Access to technology subject to ITAR/EAR requires candidates to meet U.S. Person requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 1–4 years of programming experience.
  • Advanced Python skills; experience with C++, R, or Java.
  • Experience with ML/AI frameworks and libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, and Hugging Face Transformers.
  • Experience with data processing and databases such as Pandas, NumPy, Apache Spark, SQL, and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with MLOps and deployment tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, MLflow, AWS SageMaker, or GCP Vertex AI.
  • Experience with version control and collaboration tools such as Git, GitHub, GitLab, and Jira.
  • Strong background in scalable software design, API development, and testing practices.
  • Familiarity with data science.
  • Must meet U.S. Person requirements because the position requires access to technology subject to ITAR/EAR.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with recommendation systems, pattern recognition, or large-scale software architectures.
  • Experience with cobots such as UR eSeries, simulation platforms such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim or Gazebo/ROS2, and AI/ML tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support iterative enhancements to in-house software applications and tools for business and technical operations.
  • Deploy, scale, and integrate machine learning models into user-facing applications.
  • Develop and deploy ML models, including LLMs, CNNs, GANs, and ResNets, for computer vision, inspection data, ERP and operations use cases, or engineering R&D in robotics and unmanned systems/drones.
  • Design, develop, and maintain API interfaces connecting internal AI/ML platforms with external enterprise software.
  • Build scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and synchronize data between ML models and third-party enterprise APIs.
  • Design and implement cobot applications, multi-cobot workstations, and simulation environments.
  • Build scalable GUIs and reusable software components for data pipelines and manufacturing dashboards.
  • Analyze and optimize code for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and management teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Support or lead small-team technical proposals and provide guidance to peers on advanced automation and ML projects.
