About The Position

CACI is seeking an experienced AI/ML Subject Matter Expert to support a Department of Defense customer at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. The role works closely with Research & Development teams to evaluate, develop, assess, and validate advanced Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning solutions. The SME conducts Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V), analyzes model performance and effectiveness, and produces objective technical assessments of AI/ML capabilities and limitations. The role emphasizes mathematics, statistics, machine learning theory, and data science. Familiarity with generative AI is desirable; the primary focus is evaluating and improving AI/ML methodologies rather than AI operations, prompt engineering, or application-level integration alone. The successful candidate will assess internally developed, vendor-provided, and research-partner solutions and communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders. The position supports the full project lifecycle, from concept development and proposal evaluation through implementation, testing, and transition to operational DoD environments. It includes collaboration with R&D teams, industry partners, academic researchers, engineers, data scientists, government stakeholders, and external partners. The role is full-time, regular employment, based at Aberdeen Proving Ground, with up to 10% local travel and an active Secret clearance required. The proposed salary range is $115,600–$254,200 USD. CACI describes flexible time off, learning resources, competitive compensation, benefits, and learning and development opportunities. Benefits include healthcare, wellness, financial and retirement support, family support, continuing education, and time off benefits.
