Computing Engineer/Software Developer –AI/ML, GUI Development, Custom Cobot Control

Custom Manufacturing and Engineering•Pinellas Park, FL
•$68,000 - $78,000

About The Position

Custom Manufacturing & Engineering, Inc. (CME) is seeking a Software Engineer to develop custom collaborative robot (cobot) control integrations, AI/ML applications, and related graphical user interfaces for advanced manufacturing and inspection environments. The role works with cobots, including UR eSeries and others, simulation platforms such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Gazebo/ROS2, and AI/ML tools to create scalable solutions that support manufacturing automation and product quality. The position involves developing and enhancing in-house software applications and tools for business and technical operations, integrating and deploying machine-learning models in user-facing applications, and building APIs and automated data pipelines that connect AI/ML platforms with enterprise systems. It also includes creating cobot applications, multi-cobot workstations, simulation environments, GUIs, reusable software components, dashboards, and support for technical proposals and peers. The role collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, and management teams. The position requires access to technology subject to ITAR/EAR, so candidates must meet U.S. Person requirements. CME is an equal opportunity employer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 1–4 years of programming experience.
  • Advanced Python skills; experience with C++, R, or Java environments.
  • Strong background in scalable software design, API development, and testing practices.
  • Familiarity with data science.
  • Must meet U.S. Person requirements because the position requires access to technology subject to ITAR/EAR.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, or Hugging Face Transformers.
  • Experience with Pandas, NumPy, Apache Spark, SQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, MLflow, AWS SageMaker, or GCP Vertex AI.
  • Experience with Git, GitHub, GitLab, or Jira.
  • Experience with recommendation systems, pattern recognition, or large-scale software architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support iterative enhancements to in-house software applications and tools for business and technical operations.
  • Perform full-stack development for AI and machine-learning applications, including deploying, scaling, and integrating models into user-facing applications.
  • Develop and deploy machine-learning models, such as LLMs, CNNs, GANs, and ResNets, for computer vision, inspection data, ERP and operations improvements, or robotics and unmanned-systems research and development.
  • Design, develop, and maintain API interfaces connecting internal AI/ML platforms with external enterprise software, including ERP and security platforms.
  • Build scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and synchronize data between ML models and third-party enterprise APIs.
  • Design and implement cobot applications, multi-cobot workstations, and simulation environments.
  • Build scalable GUIs and reusable software components for data pipelines and manufacturing dashboards.
  • Analyze and optimize code for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and management teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Support or lead small-team technical proposals and guide peers on advanced automation and ML projects.

Benefits

  • Four-day work week most weeks.
