About The Position

St. Olaf College is hiring one or more student Course Assistants for computer science courses during J-Term 2027. Depending on each student worker’s skills and course needs, positions may involve grading, lab assistance, holding office hours, or assisting with teaching. After hiring, the assistants and professor will meet to assign duties. The role supports student learning and may include assisting students during class and help sessions, supporting team projects, and coordinating with the professor.

Requirements

• Successfully completed the course for which the applicant is applying.
• Strength in the course content.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and act professionally.
• Knowledge of the hardware and software used in the course.
• Ability to attend one of the labs, which may not be required for the course applied for.
• Provide complete and timely feedback to students and arrive punctually for meetings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Punctuality, responsibility, attention to detail, and dependability.
• Enthusiasm for course content and interest in teaching.

Responsibilities

• Meet with the professor to create a plan for collecting and distributing homework.
• Grade assignments as requested by the professor.
• Assist students during help sessions with course material and assignments.
• Assist students during class meetings with course materials, including in-class assignments and worksheets.
• Support student team projects.
• Attend weekly meetings with the professor.
• Provide other support for student learning.
