About The Position

A tutor is responsible for performing all aspects of tutoring for the specific discipline. This role supports students enrolled in Computer Information Systems and related courses, identifying appropriate supplemental teaching materials to assist students with accomplishing required learning objectives. The tutor will also discuss student progress with instructors and appropriate academic staff, providing oral and written reports as required, including reporting through the TCSG early alert system. This position operates in a professional classroom/lab environment and requires the use of standard office/classroom/lab equipment and technologies.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or Information Technology, or Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (ex: Management Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Security/Cybersecurity, Computer Software Engineering Systems, Networking/Technology, IT Management, Technology Management) from an accredited institution
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary technical education
  • Knowledge of academic course standards
  • Knowledge of the College’s academic programs
  • Skill to work cooperatively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Skill in the preparation and delivery of classroom/lab content
  • Skill to make timely decisions
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs
  • Ability to break larger tasks into manageable smaller tasks
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Skill in accurate grade keeping
  • Skills in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public
  • Oral and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline (with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline from an accredited institution)
  • Teaching experience at the postsecondary level
  • Directly related field experience
  • Online teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Meets with students individually or in groups on an established basis in a classroom setting
  • Carefully listens to student requests and provides positive feedback
  • Offers support to encourage student learning
  • Performs basic administrative duties to support the daily operations of the tutoring program
  • Maintains student confidentiality as required by FERPA and reports any violation to supervisor immediately
  • Supports students enrolled in the discipline and related courses
  • Identifies appropriate supplemental teaching materials to assist a student with accomplishing required learning objectives
  • Discusses student progress with instructor and appropriate academic staff
  • Provides oral and written reports, as required, including reporting through the TCSG early alert system
  • Other Activities and Duties as Assigned
