About The Position

The Compliance Officer supports the credit union’s compliance program by monitoring regulatory requirements, investigating fraud and suspicious activity, and providing guidance to staff. This role ensures adherence to BSA, AML, OFAC, and other applicable regulations while supporting risk management through analysis, reporting, and training.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience working in a financial institution.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist (BSACS) and the Credit Union Compliance Specialist (CUCE) certifications or equivalent certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in BSA/AML compliance and monitoring within a financial institution preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine department tasks and reports in an accurate and punctual manner.
  • Serve as back-up Compliance Officer and BSA Officer in the absence of Risk Manager.
  • Provide support and guidance on compliance-related information and procedures.
  • Investigate money laundering and fraud alerts to determine appropriate action regarding the alert.
  • Respond to internal inquiries related to BSA/AML, OFAC, fraud, and compliance questions.
  • Support employee awareness and education for identifying suspicious activity.
  • File Suspicious Activity Reports and Cash Transaction Reports appropriately and accurately as required.
  • Review regulatory filings to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify, review, and monitor high risk accounts.
  • Conduct Enhanced Due Diligence on High-Risk Businesses.
  • Assist in identifying training needs for staff to ensure compliance.
  • Support management of the compliance program, including daily monitoring and oversight activities.
  • Prepare compliance and fraud reports for management.
  • Prepare and facilitate trainings related to BSA, AML, OFAC, fraud, and compliance-related topics.
  • Provide guidance to credit union staff members in questions related to BSA/AML, OFAC, fraud, and compliance.
  • Evaluate and approve high-risk relationships in alignment with the credit union’s risk threshold.
  • Support process enhancements and updates as necessary.
  • Investigate fraud claims made by members, staff, and potential members.
  • Monitor and maintain the anti-money laundering and fraud software for effectiveness according to the credit union’s risk appetite and thresholds.
  • Review and approve written communication for members and third parties.
  • Stay informed of changes in laws, regulations, and industry trends related to BSA, AML, and fraud topics.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, specifically the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), OFAC and the Patriot Act, and all state and federal laws.
  • Performs additional duties assigned by supervisor.
