About The Position

This is a critical compliance position that serves the Office of the Vice President for Research and the CSU System in the areas of conflict of interest and responsible conduct of research, both of which are required components of federally sponsored research programs. In addition, the conflict of interest program helps ensure that employee commitments do not interfere with the ethical use of CSU resources, time, or institutional authority.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One year of experience in administrative support, customer service, training, compliance, or related professional work.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience working with electronic systems, databases, or workflow tools.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience supporting compliance programs, sponsored projects or administration.
  • Experience developing or delivering training or educational materials.
  • Familiarity with federal research regulations (e.g., COI, RCR, NIH/NSF/DOE requirements).
  • Basic understanding of biosciences or engineering disciplines.
  • Experience with process improvement, workflow design, or compliance documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and processes Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosures and related documentation to ensure accuracy and alignment with CSU policies, supporting institutional compliance and reducing risk to the university.
  • Maintains and monitors COI management plans, RCR training records, and internal tracking systems to ensure timely follow up, required reporting to federal sponsors, and consistent documentation across compliance programs.
  • Assists in developing, updating, and improving RCR training materials, guidance documents, and workflow tools to reflect current federal requirements and enhance usability for researchers and administrators.
  • Responds to inquiries from faculty, staff, and campus partners regarding COI, RCR, and related compliance processes, providing clear guidance that helps stakeholders navigate requirements and reduces administrative burden.
  • Collaborates with administrative and academic units such as Sponsored Programs, Research Security, Procurement, and college/department leadership to gather information, resolve compliance questions, and support coordinated oversight across the research lifecycle.
  • Maintains internal documentation and databases to ensure accurate and accessible records that support institutional reporting, committee operations, and compliance monitoring.
  • Contributes to policy development and process improvement by assisting with drafting standard operating procedures, reviewing existing workflows, and identifying opportunities to streamline compliance activities and enhance the researcher experience.
