About The Position

The Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) is a locally funded initiative sponsored by the Department of Employment Services (DOES) that provides District youths with enriching and constructive summer work experiences through subsidized placements in the private and government sectors. National Housing Trust (NHT) has been dedicated to creating and preserving affordable housing for almost 40 years. We build, preserve, and finance affordable housing and use that expertise to inform and advance resident-focused solutions to strengthen the broader affordable housing industry. Our Community Outreach and Impact (COI) team is dedicated to resident success. We believe that all people deserve affordable housing and that integrated, onsite services provide accessible support to our residents. COI is seeking a resident of Villages of East River Apartments in Washington, DC, between the ages of 22 and 24 for a temporary contract position running from June 29 through August 7. This is a part time role, working up to 30 hours per week, and reporting to the Resident Services Coordinator. This position is fully on site with no remote work option.

Requirements

  • Current resident of Villages of East River Apartments in Washington, DC (must be listed on the lease)
  • Available to work on site throughout the summer
  • Between the ages of 22 and 24
  • Interest in community development, social work, public policy, nonprofit management, or a related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Support relationships with onsite and external service providers
  • Assist in coordinating resident programs for all ages based on community interests and needs
  • Help supervise and support volunteers during programs and events
  • Assist with collecting and organizing resident survey data to identify community needs
  • Participate in regular check-ins and meetings with RSC
  • Help connect residents to local resources (rental assistance, food access, workforce training, tutoring, etc.)
  • Collaborate with staff and residents to help plan resident meetings and community events
  • Gain exposure to nonprofit operations, community-based programming, and resident services management
