About The Position

Responsible for managing the property tax compliance cycle with primary responsibilities centered on return preparation, tax bill processing, and payment. This role specializes in complex and centrally assessed property at the state and local levels for clients in the utility, power generation, communications, oil & gas, industrial manufacturing, and mining industries. The position focuses on ensuring accurate preparation and timely filing of returns, with an emphasis on utility and energy-related assets, including electric and gas utilities, pipelines, and power generation assets (renewable and conventional).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field
  • 3–5 years of property tax experience
  • Experience with multi-state filings and complex apportionment methodologies
  • Experience with property tax software (PTMS, OneSource, PowerPlan or similar platforms)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with utility, power generation, or other centrally assessed property preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complex personal property and centrally assessed tax returns and supporting workpapers using Microsoft Excel, PowerPlan, PTMS, or OneSource
  • Prepare and support filings for utility and power generation clients, including unitary and multi-state filings
  • Reconcile property tax returns to fixed asset systems and, where applicable, regulatory filings (e.g., FERC or state commission reports)
  • Review state and local laws, rules, and regulations, including utility-specific guidance
  • Track jurisdictional assessment notices and tax bills
  • Process tax bills and prepare funding requests for payment
  • Maintain accurate property tax calendars and meet all filing deadlines
  • Update internal compliance software throughout reporting, assessment, and payment cycles
  • Assist with appeals, amended returns, and refund requests, including support for utility-related matters
  • Support new client implementations, including setup for utility and energy portfolios
  • Serve as a resource for team members on client-specific and technical issues
  • Assist with training and mentoring junior team members
  • Assist with return reviews and special projects
  • Support business development initiatives and client onboarding
