About The Position

The Complex Claims Director – Management Liability handles AIG’s highest-severity Directors & Officers (D&O) claims, with opportunities to handle high-exposure Employment Practices Liability and Fiduciary Liability claims. The role requires deep technical expertise, sound judgment, effective stakeholder management, and ownership of key claim outcomes. The position includes 10% travel and is primarily office-based, with in-person collaboration expected.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience handling complex insurance claims, litigation, or other related work.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Advanced experience and capabilities in litigation claims management, including alternative dispute resolution and mediation.
• Experience attending and controlling cases at pre-suit, litigated, post-trial, mediation, and settlement-conference stages.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
• Motivation and interest in an upwardly mobile career path.

Nice To Haves

• Management liability claims experience is highly preferred.
• Juris Doctor (JD) is highly preferred.
• Multi-state adjuster licenses are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Determine the scope and extent of available coverage.
• Investigate, evaluate, and dispose of new and existing D&O claims, and potentially Employment Practices Liability and Fiduciary Liability claims.
• Develop and execute investigation strategies to identify critical issues affecting liability, causation, and damages, and assess risk transfer and contribution opportunities.
• Communicate with internal and external customers, including insureds, brokers, and underwriters, to provide guidance and manage expectations.
• Document exposure evaluations and resolution strategies.
• Frequently present claim disposition recommendations to senior management.
• Obtain appropriate authority to independently negotiate multi-million-dollar claims with leading plaintiff attorneys nationwide; document evaluations, reasoning, and strategies; and use alternative dispute resolution when appropriate.
• Strategize and budget litigation for each claim through discussions with counsel, vendors, and insureds.
• Establish clear ground rules with defense and coverage counsel to maintain financial control of budgets and expenses.
