About The Position

AmTrust Financial Services is seeking a Complex Claim Specialist to handle complex professional liability claims, with an emphasis on legal malpractice claims. The position may be based in one of the company’s claims offices, with the possibility of remote work. The specialist evaluates coverage, assesses risk transfer opportunities, analyzes liability and damages, manages litigation, negotiates, and ensures files are appropriately reserved. Periodic travel may be required to attend mediations, trials, and related meetings. The role may also include other duties as assigned.

Requirements

At least 7 years of experience handling professional liability claims.
Proficient computer skills to navigate a paperless claim file system.
Strong technical claim skills and legal knowledge.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to adapt readily to changing situations, requirements, and priorities.
Ability to influence others effectively without damaging relationships.
Negotiation skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Good time-management skills.

Nice To Haves

JD, CPCU, or RPLU designation preferred.

Responsibilities

Recognize exposures and ensure reserving is appropriate and timely.
Evaluate coverage issues and risk transfer opportunities.
Conduct thorough, independent investigations and use available resources, such as the internet, PACER, and experts, to address gaps in understanding.
Manage litigation through appropriate selection, planning, budgeting, and partnership with counsel.
Negotiate effectively.
Communicate exposures effectively, both internally and externally.
Formulate an appropriate resolution strategy to achieve the best claim outcome.
Travel periodically to attend mediations, trials, and related meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
