About The Position

AHRC New York City, a large, complex nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting neurodivergent children and adults, seeks a Community Support Supervisor. This role involves developing service direction with a clear philosophy and expectations toward personal future planning and community inclusion, and creating activities to implement this philosophy. The supervisor will foster independence, productivity, and community inclusion of individuals served, while protecting their health, safety, well-being, and civil rights. Key responsibilities include ensuring individualized habilitation plans are consistent with service plans and supported by the team, tracking progress on established outcomes, and facilitating the development and maintenance of individual support networks through outreach and collaboration. The role also involves coordinating and participating in direct support staff training, evaluating and developing goals for support staff, assigning duties during staff absences, and ensuring adequate supervision. The supervisor will facilitate communication with employees and outside agencies, act as a liaison between Service Coordination Services and Day Habilitation, and participate in meetings. Ensuring the safety and health of individuals served through monitoring, coordinating medical support, practicing emergency procedures, and promoting health and safety rights is crucial. Enhancing staff relations through effective communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution is also a key function. The position requires ensuring program compliance with New York State Home and Community-Based Waiver Services regulations, agency philosophies, and policies.

Requirements

  • Masters in Business Management or related field.
  • Will accept a single degree or any combination of degree, diplomas or professional credentials determined to be equivalent to a US Masters in Business Management by an accredited credential evaluation service.

Responsibilities

  • Develop direction for service with clear philosophy and expectations toward personal future planning and community inclusion.
  • Develop activities to implement this philosophy.
  • Foster independence, productivity, and community inclusion of the individuals served while protecting their health, safety, well-being and civil rights.
  • Ensure that individualized habilitation plans are consistent with individuals’ service plans and are supported by the team.
  • Follow through on each individual’s established outcomes and documentation of progress by the Community Support Professionals.
  • Facilitate and support the development and maintenance of individual support networks through outreach to family members, community members, and professionals and through coordination of personal planning sessions in collaboration with the individual served.
  • Coordinate and participate in direct support staff training and in-services by orienting new staff, arranging for staff to attend training, maintaining training records, and supporting ongoing staff development.
  • Evaluate assigned support staff on an ongoing basis implementing a job performance evaluation annually.
  • Develop appropriate goals for staff and follow through on staff progress.
  • Assign staff various duties particularly in the case of staff absences.
  • Ensure that there is adequate supervision for the service needs of the individuals served at the program.
  • Facilitate effective communication with employees and outside agencies for ongoing development of community opportunities.
  • Function as liaison between Service Coordination Services and Day Habilitation service.
  • Participate in any special case conference, staff and parent meetings as appropriate.
  • Ensure that individuals supported are safe and living healthy lives by monitoring safety issues, coordinating, monitoring and documenting medical support, practicing appropriate emergency procedures, responding to emergencies and promoting individual rights regarding health and safety issues.
  • Enhance staff relations by using effective communication skills, encouraging growth and self-development, facilitating teamwork, employing conflict resolution skills, and providing adequate support to staff.
  • Ensure that program remains in compliance with New York State Home and Community-Based Waiver Services regulations, agency philosophies, and policies.
