About The Position

The Lino Lakes Police Department is accepting applications for a Community Service Officer. This non-sworn, uniformed position is designed to introduce future sworn officers to a law enforcement environment. The position is responsible for providing support services for all divisions of the Police Department, enforcing animal control and related ordinances, and assisting other city departments as assigned. The city of Lino Lakes is a growing outer ring suburb located 20 minutes from St. Paul and Minneapolis, offering access to numerous parks, trails, and outdoor activities. Requirements

  • Ability to handle animals in live traps and related threatening conditions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and members of the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers and members of the public.
  • Ability to treat police matters confidentially.
  • Ability to operate police department vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and workdays.
  • One year of experience using Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years or older at the time of appointment.
  • Successful completion of background check.
  • Current enrollment in an accredited law enforcement program.
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in law enforcement (Community Service Officer, Police Reserve, Explorer), private security, or related field.
  • Knowledge of local ordinances and state statute regarding animal and nuisance issues.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Community Oriented Policing and related crime prevention and citizen education programs.
  • CPR and/or EMR Certification
  • More than one year of experience in customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces non-sworn city ordinances and policies, including but not limited to parking, bicycle, and zoning regulations, and writes citations for documented ordinance violations.
  • Investigates code compliance and property complaints, including abandoned, unlicensed, or inoperable vehicles, as well as general property nuisance violations.
  • Assists citizens and motorists with lockouts or house checks.
  • Responds to complaints regarding nuisance animals such as barking dogs and inspects kennels for compliance with license regulations.
  • Provide animal control services including, but not limited to, responded to animal complaints, capture and impoundment of stray animals, investigations relating to dog bites to include follow-up and dangerous dog recommendations.
  • Assists the public with inquiries and responds to assist officers on dispatched calls when necessary.
  • Assists with the recovery and inventory of lost, stolen, abandoned, or confiscated property.
  • Performs police support duties as assigned, including but not limited to, delivery of materials and evidence to various organizations as needed, traffic control at special events and/or at accident scenes, and prisoner transports.
  • Assist in the maintenance of agency equipment and medical supplies.
  • Directs and controls motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
  • Provide fingerprinting services to members of the public.
  • Prepares clear, accurate and concise reports of activities in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Organizes and educates residents on crime prevention techniques.
  • Assists the Records Division with clerical tasks as assigned.
  • Patrols the community to detect and deter potential criminal activity.
  • Maintain strong code of ethics of the highest standard of conduct while on and off duty.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
