About The Position

This is a part-time, civilian position, responsible for patrolling parking in designated areas for purposes of enforcing alternate side parking, overnight parking, permit parking in municipal parking lots and other miscellaneous parking violations. This position also requires assisting patrol with traffic control needs and collecting abandoned bicycles. The hours are 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. up to 20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license without restrictions, or with correctable restrictions.
  • No criminal history which would call into question an ability to handle uncounted funds with trust and confidence.
  • Ability to perform physical demands of job.
  • Free from physical, emotional, or mental conditions which might adversely affect performance of his/her duties as a Community Service Officer.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools to repair and make adjustments to parking kiosks.
  • Able to work cooperatively with others.
  • Be able to present credible testimony in court.
  • Knowledge of the geography and demographics of the City of Stevens Point.
  • Develop and maintain an acceptable level of basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Department Rules, Regulations, City Ordinances and State laws.
  • Ability to resolve public complaints tactfully and courteously.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Stand for prolonged periods of time and walk outdoors under adverse weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol city streets and parking lots on foot or by designated conveyance, for the purpose of observing vehicles parked in violation of parking ordinances.
  • Issue tickets for vehicles that are in violation.
  • Public contact in resolving complaints of kiosk malfunctions and answering questions regarding violations and parking kiosk operations.
  • Periodic collection of money from kiosk violations and fine boxes.
  • Testify in court on contested tickets.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance program on all kiosks.
  • Repair malfunctioning kiosks.
  • Perform fingerprinting for civilian applicants and backgrounds.
  • Picking up and processing found and abandoned bicycles.
  • Assist school zone crossings as needed.
  • Conduct bank runs for Department Records Bureau.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
