Requirements

  • Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to administer medications.
  • Ability to provide preventive health care and treatment to groups.
  • Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Incumbent must hold a current, active Florida Registered Nursing license or a multistate license from another Compact State in accordance to FL Statute 464
  • leadership experience.
  • Florida driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • 2 years clinical nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing assessments of students referred by school health staff, school personnel, and parents.
  • Provide parent teacher conferences as needed at assigned schools and as needed at other designated schools.
  • Make appropriate referrals to physicians and other agencies.
  • Provide follow-up of referrals.
  • Participate in staffing for Exceptional Education Programming, perform and supervise medical services to medically complex students as needed, and supervise the dispensation of medication for all students as prescribed at assigned schools and as needed at other designated schools.
  • Provides excellent customer service, phone etiquette and complaint management as defined by the Highlands.
  • Train and supervise Health room staff in the schools assigned in all aspects of school health support duties, including screening programs, first aid, CPR, etc.
  • Will provide and direct or indirectly supervise services to students on a day-to-day basis in the health rooms.
  • Will review student health records and develop care plans and action plans for students with chronic health issues as needed.
  • Will assure that mandated services such as annual screenings and health education are performed at appropriate grade levels.
  • Will participate as assigned in work groups and/or committees of other community agencies whose activities impact school health, i.e. School Health Advisory Committees.
  • Prepare Annual School Health Report for each assigned school and participate in preparation of School Health related reports.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of policies for the School Health program.
  • Maintain appropriate, accurate, and up-to-date records of work performed and services provided.
  • Participate in educational, professional and community activities to enhance personal development that will result in improvement in the delivery of service.
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring process for new hires in School Health as assigned.
  • Collaborate in training and staff development as assigned.
  • Attends selected training workshops and in-service programs, team and staff meetings, and training programs.
  • Works cooperatively with others, keeps others informed of necessary information, and works together as opposed to working separately.
  • Facilitates the operation of a team of which he/she is a part and fosters teamwork across the work units.
  • Encourages open communication and coordination between all members of the health care team.
  • Communicates clearly and listens effectively.
  • Maintains the highest standards of professional conduct and always ensures confidentiality.
  • Shares information only when the recipient’s right to access is clearly established and the sharing of such information is clearly in the best interest of the client.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • This individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate.
