About The Position

The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County is seeking a Community Health Nursing Supervisor (CHNS) for its Tuberculosis Program. This role is a leadership position within a public health organization, supporting the mission to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida, aligning with the agency’s values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Responsiveness, and Excellence. The CHNS leads a clinical team of registered nurses in the prevention and control of tuberculosis in Hillsborough County. As a working supervisor, the incumbent provides both clinical oversight and direct patient care, operating under the supervision of the TB Program Manager. The position requires close collaboration with providers, clinic staff, TB field investigators, and community partners to ensure high-quality, coordinated care. The CHNS is expected to demonstrate strong organizational and leadership skills, maintain positive and professional relationships, and be flexible and adaptable. Key responsibilities include supervising, motivating, training, and evaluating staff; planning and directing daily work; managing personnel actions such as hiring, assigning duties, promoting, disciplining, and recognizing employees; establishing performance expectations; conducting regular performance meetings; completing evaluations; managing timesheets; and ensuring appropriate staffing and coverage within the program. Requirements

  • Active Florida Registered Nurse license in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or a multistate license from another Compact State.
  • Two years of supervising or leading a team.
  • Two years of experience as a nurse working with acute, chronic, or infectious disease clients.
  • Two years of case management experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, motivates, trains, and evaluates clinical and support staff.
  • Plans, assigns, and directs work; oversees hiring, promotion, disciplinary actions, and recognition.
  • Establishes performance expectations, conducts regular performance meetings, and completes evaluations.
  • Ensures accurate timesheet management, staffing coverage, and workforce readiness.

  • Oversee pharmaceutical, medical supply, and equipment management to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Provides direction and oversight for RN protocols, including development, implementation, and ongoing review.
  • Maintains incident reports, documentation, and monitors corrective actions from investigations or risk assessments.
  • Monitors and analyzes program performance indicators and implements improvement strategies.
  • Participates in the development or revision of state rules, policies, and technical guidelines.
  • Ensures infection prevention practices and emergency response readiness, including Special Needs Shelter participation and other preparedness responsibilities.
  • Serves as liaison between internal teams and external partners to gather, interpret, and report TB surveillance and epidemiologic data (TB disease, suspects, LTBI, Class B arrivals, refugee referrals, and contact investigations).
  • Coordinates with Regional Nursing staff and the Program Manager to ensure accurate, active, and timely surveillance and reporting.
  • Plans, develops, and delivers TB related training and educational programs; ensures all TB educational materials remain current and aligned with best practices.
  • Reviews laboratory, radiology, and case management processes to ensure clinical quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in and supports disease control activities including field operations, outbreak response, quality improvement projects, and clinical support for investigations.
  • Collaborates with disease control programs, healthcare providers, community agencies, regional partners, and state counterparts to implement public health practices and guidelines.
  • Maintains professional partnerships including engagement with TB Nurses Network and other relevant stakeholder groups.
  • Participates in local and state disease control meetings and serves as a community resource for TB and public health issues.
  • Coordinates with other supervisors and departments to ensure integrated, population-focused service delivery.
