About The Position

This is a Career Service, Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor position within the Highlands County Health Department. This position will supervise the school nurses and techs that represent the Highlands CHD within the Highlands County School District. The incumbent is part of the organization and is expected to promote cooperation, courtesy, and teamwork in a diverse environment. This position is under the direct supervision of the Community Health Nursing Director and is classified as a sensitive position. Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Department of Health Information Security and Privacy Policy and procedures. This is a highly responsible administrative nursing position. The incumbent will supervise staff and manage the School Health budget, including professional and non-professional staff in the comprehensive school health project, and will serve as the multi-school manager directing and coordinating services and activities for school students of Highlands County. This position is responsible for developing and updating the Comprehensive School Health Annual/Semi-annual Plan and presenting it to the District School Advisory Committee every two years or as needed, and completing the annual school health report for submission to the DOH School Health Services Program per School Health Guidelines and policy. Employees abide by State/Federal laws governing health information and are responsible for maintaining confidentiality, security, privacy, and integrity of protected health information, referring to and utilizing DOH 50-10-05 Information Security and Privacy Policy as needed.

Requirements

  • Incumbent must hold a current, active Florida Registered Nursing license or a multistate license from another Compact State in accordance to FL Statute 464.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Florida driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • 2 years clinical nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to administer medications.
  • Ability to provide preventive health care and treatment to groups.
  • Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to teach basic health care.
  • Successful completion of a security background check and/or drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the school nurses and techs that represent the Highlands CHD within the Highlands County School District.

  • Exercise independent judgment in formulation and maintenance of school health policies and procedures which have significant impact on personnel administration and budget.

  • Certify EARS/timesheets/travel documents in accordance with DOH policies and SMART objectives.
  • Keep direct position descriptions up to date.
  • Participate in general policy and program formulation.
  • Evaluate the quality and productivity of the school health program in relation to current and anticipated school nursing, community, and CHD needs.
  • Plan and direct the operation of School Health, including quality improvement and client satisfaction.
  • Be responsible for the Frontline 3rd party billing and claims.
  • Coordinate school health screenings, staff training and coordinates and manages back to school clinics.
  • Analyze and plan for Community Health projects as needed in accordance with agency objectives, community needs and available resources.
  • Initiate and evaluate programs, projects, and the delivery of services.
  • Serve on local committees as needed such as the School District Advisory Committee.
  • Serve as a liaison with local School Board.
  • Collaborate with other health care providers and community partners towards building an integrated public health system.
  • Maintain Nursing license, continuing education and protocols.
  • Ensure that direct reports likewise are current with licensure and continuing education including mandatory annual FDOH training.
  • Assist with TB program case management.
  • Make home visits as needed.
  • Observe ingestion of medications for TB cases, suspects, and LTBI patients.
  • Monitor side effects and document findings.
  • Assist in the Immunizations clinics.
  • Evaluate client immunization status.
  • Administer appropriate immunizations following CDC guidelines and documents electronically in FLSHOTS.
  • Assist with organizing Immunization PODS.
  • Stay abreast of all rules and regulations, maintain up-to-date protocols and procedures, and assure nursing and staff support are in compliance.
  • Offer services to private schools upon request and availability.
  • Perform emergency duty before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days.
