The City of Fremont's Community Development Department is recruiting for a Community Development Technician. This role supports the department's mission to help Fremont become a sustainable, strategically urban community. The department's activities include providing professional assistance to developers, contractors, businesses, and homeowners; preserving open space; planning for and assisting with the building of high-quality residential and commercial developments; maintaining and increasing housing alternatives; and implementing sustainable, environmentally beneficial programs. The department encompasses Planning, Building and Safety, Code Enforcement, Housing, and Environmental Services. This is a journey-level classification reporting to the Plan Check/Permit Center Manager. Incumbents assist architects, contractors, and the public in accepting, processing, and tracking applications for building permits; calculating and collecting permit fees; providing General Plan and zoning information; accepting development applications; and issuing administrative over-the-counter permits. This position is distinguished from the Senior Development Services Technician by its level of responsibility, complexity of duties, independence of action, and lack of lead direction. It is also distinguished from the Zoning Technician and Development Services Technician II by including both zoning and building permit functions.
