About The Position

As the Community Coordinator, you will promote housing stability for marginalized individuals, supporting their health, wellness, and community belonging through recreational and community-building activities as well as connecting to community resources and events. Indwell is a Christian charity founded in 1974 that serves people impacted by poverty and homelessness. We are the fastest growing developer in Ontario, creating permanent affordable high-quality efficient housing communities coupled with supportive programs to over 1,250 tenants, meeting their needs of health, wellness, and belonging.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma.
  • Commitment to promoting and demonstrating the vision, mission, and values of Indwell within the workplace and community
  • A warm, sensitive and caring approach with a genuine interest in supporting people living with mental illness
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships and work well independently
  • Strong listening and problem-solving skills, flexibility, organization, responsibility, and initiative
  • A current Vulnerable Sector Police Check or willingness to obtain at one's own cost
  • Be between the ages of 18-30 at start of employment
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be in possession of a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Be available to work for the duration of the contract

Nice To Haves

  • Priority given to those with post-secondary education in the social sciences and/or residential experience

Responsibilities

  • Working as part of a team to provide direct and indirect support to tenants in a supportive housing environment.
  • Helping individuals connect to community resources, supports and programming.
  • Reinforcing individuals’ life skills, spirituality, social and community skills by planning and supporting participation in cultural, spiritual, recreational, leisure, educational, and social activities
  • Arranging and coordinating all aspects of recreational and community activities for tenants
  • Supporting volunteers
  • Documentation of events, including program planning, tracking of participants, evaluation of events
  • Develop therapeutic relationships
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment
