About The Position

Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is seeking an experienced, dynamic, capable, creative, and caring Communications Specialist for the Office of Communications and Marketing. This role is part of the Non-Teaching Professional staff. The college, founded in 1953 and located in scenic Upstate NY, offers over 80 degree and certificate programs across three schools and serves nearly 9,000 students annually. HVCC is a recognized leader in career and transfer preparation, workforce training, distance learning, and serves a diverse population. Requirements

  • Associate's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field plus one (1) year of experience in journalism, writing, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related professional environment (OR) High School Diploma or possession of a High School Equivalency plus three (3) years of experience in journalism, writing, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related professional environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong editing and proofreading abilities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to function effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, content creation, and Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Works with colleagues in Communications and Marketing, Creative Services and Video and Multimedia Services to support promotional activities of the college.
  • Assists with content development of college publications, including writing and editing stories.
  • Drafts and edits news releases, speeches, talking points, video scripts, web pages, advertisements and other collateral materials.
  • Develops copy and edits internal and external newsletters, publications and marketing materials.
  • Drafts media pitches and supports media-related events and activities.
  • Contributes to social media and web content management, strategy and execution.
  • Assists with academic, administrative and student services communication and marketing efforts.
  • Executes research to support college communications and marketing endeavors.
  • Assists with office management, meetings, procurement, and provides assistance to other departments and college partners.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
