About The Position

This role serves as a Communications Representative for LEO, managing daily communication activities. The position involves collaborating with LEO leadership to ensure effective communication, advising on general strategy, drafting press releases, speeches, and briefings, creating social media and email promotional content, and developing PowerPoint presentations and other marketing and outreach materials. The role also includes participation in special projects as directed by the LEO Communications Director. A remote/hybrid schedule may be possible based on performance and operational needs, but all work must be conducted within Michigan. Relocation to Michigan is required for candidates residing outside the state.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, public relations, or a related field.
  • For Communications Representative 10: One year of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative 9.
  • For Communications Representative P11: Two years of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative, including one year equivalent to a Communications Representative 10.
  • Alternative Education and Experience for Communications Representative 9: Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Alternative Education and Experience for Communications Representative 9: Completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 16 semester (24 term) credits in any combination of coursework in English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, marketing, or public relations, AND two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Alternative Education and Experience for Communications Representative 9: Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Must attach a cover letter, detailed resume, and official college transcript(s) to the application.
  • Official college transcripts must contain the college/university name and address, the degree conferred, date granted, coursework completed (especially if no degree granted), and the Registrar's signature and/or seal.
  • For foreign college or university degrees, academic credentials must be evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents unless recognized by CHEA.
  • All classified employees are subject to Civil Service Rule 2-8 Ethical Standards and Conduct.
  • All newly hired state employees are required to submit and pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Certain positions may require state criminal, fingerprint-based and driving record background checks.

Responsibilities
