About The Position

The Communications Operator provides essential communications support for CommonSpirit Memorial, helping ensure callers receive clear, timely information and that messages are directed appropriately. The operator answers questions about health system programs, procedures, and services and handles calls for more than 100 physician offices, the hospital, and physical therapy services, including after-hours and lunchtime coverage. Calls and messages are routed according to urgency. The role requires handling multiple tasks at once, including speaking with callers, listening, and entering information.

The department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. Operators work shifts as needed, including weekends, second and third shifts, and holidays. The position calls for strong communication and computer skills, basic medical knowledge, attention to detail, adaptability, and teamwork.

Requirements

• High school graduate; General Studies, required upon hire.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Computer skills.
• Basic medical knowledge.
• Ability to multitask while speaking, listening, and entering information.
• Team-player approach.

Responsibilities

• Answer calls and questions about health system programs, procedures, and services.

• Take messages and route them appropriately according to call urgency.
• Speak with callers, listen, and enter information simultaneously.
