About The Position

The Communications Assistance Representative provides intermediate-level operation of a large telephone switchboard system. This float position has a variable schedule based on departmental staffing needs and must provide coverage for a department operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Training will be provided.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of related experience.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate the telephone switchboard to establish or assist customers in making local or long-distance telephone connections.
• Route incoming and outgoing telephone calls placed through the switchboard.
• Provide after-hours answering service for various UTMB clinics.
• Assist doctors, students, and other staff members with pager-related problems.
• Provide information to callers and record messages.
• Keep records of calls placed and charges incurred.
• Adhere to internal controls established for the department.
• Perform related duties as required.
