About The Position

The University of Notre Dame is seeking a dynamic and creative communications professional with a well-rounded skill set, including digital media and graphic design, to join the Institute for Social Concerns. This role will support the Institute's mission to grow justice rooted in the common good by sharing and enhancing stories about engaging work in the community and around the globe. The Communications Program Director will report to the Assistant Director of Communications at the Institute and will collaborate with Institute leadership to develop and implement an Institute-wide communications strategy. This strategy will inform and engage center constituencies on and off campus, forwarding the Institute's mission. The position will also be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the strategy across various media, and for creating written and visual communications materials. An additional writer will support this work. The role also involves maintaining Institute and University brand standards, ensuring high standards of creativity, quality, accuracy, timeliness, and design. Specific duties include designing, implementing, and updating social media strategy on platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube to keep communication current, accurate, and engaging. The position will also focus on enhancing connections and engagement with alumni and editing video for social media and stewardship efforts. The ideal candidate is an energized colleague capable of managing multiple simultaneous projects and working collaboratively to enhance the Institute's ability to tell its story and advance its mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Design, English, Public Relations, Communications or related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent graphic design skills and experience with content management systems.
  • Exemplary writing, editing, and copy editing skills.
  • Ability to operate under pressure and meet deadlines within a dynamic environment.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and to prioritize activities in response to changing circumstances and on-going deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, ideally in a higher education environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of printing processes and terms.
  • Knowledge of web publishing software and basic HTML code for formatting basic web pages.
  • Experience with email campaign software (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, Emma, or similar software).
  • Experience with Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator or similar software to generate promotional designs.
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite applications.
  • Database management skills.
  • Strong organization, problem-solving skills, and critical-thinking skills including knowing when to elevate to the next level.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an Institute-wide communications strategy that informs and engages center constituencies on and off campus and forwards the Institute’s mission.
