About The Position

The Commercial Refrigeration Installation Technician installs commercial refrigeration systems and components for supermarkets, grocery stores, and other commercial customers. The role includes fabricating copper tubing, brazing and making piping connections, and installing mechanical, electrical, and control components according to blueprints, schematics, and manufacturer specifications. The technician assists with system startup, testing, leak detection, evacuation, and refrigerant charging, using hand tools, power tools, meters, and specialized equipment.

The technician follows OSHA guidelines, safety procedures, and applicable industry codes; collaborates with project managers, installation teams, subcontractors, and customers to complete projects on schedule; and maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment. The position requires travel to customer locations and may involve occasional evening, weekend, or overnight assignments.

Smart Care is a national repair and service provider for commercial foodservice, refrigeration, and cold storage equipment, offering mechanical services for cooking equipment, stand-alone refrigeration, specialty coffee and beverage equipment, complex rack refrigeration, and HVAC.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in refrigeration, HVAC/R, mechanical installation, electrical work, plumbing, or a related trade.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and follow blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical instructions.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to travel and work flexible hours based on project needs.
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, squat, reach, push, and pull throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 70 pounds.
• Ability to work on ladders, lifts, rooftops, and elevated surfaces.
• Ability to work in mechanical rooms, construction sites, and varying indoor and outdoor temperatures.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and specialized installation equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Experience installing commercial or supermarket refrigeration systems.
• Brazing, copper piping, or refrigeration piping experience.
• EPA Section 608 certification.
• HVAC/R technical training, trade school education, or industry certifications.
• Familiarity with compressors, condensers, evaporators, refrigeration controls, and electrical systems.
• OSHA safety training or certification.

Responsibilities
