The Commercial Contract Manager I is responsible for providing contract management leadership and commercial support throughout the project lifecycle. This role advises project leadership on contract strategy, risk management, change management, claims administration, and contractual compliance while protecting the company’s commercial interests. The position works closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, Legal, Procurement, Subcontracting, Project Controls, Clients, Partners, Vendors, and Subcontractors to ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled and project risks and opportunities are effectively managed. In addition, the Commercial Contract Manager I serves as a business partner to the Project Management Team by leading contract administration activities, supporting commercial negotiations, managing change orders and claims, and ensuring contract execution aligns with project objectives and company standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in large Oil & Gas, Energy, Infrastructure, or EPC contracting environments
  • Proven experience in contract management within the energy industry or related sectors
  • Field experience at construction sites or fabrication yards
  • Strong knowledge of project contract management principles and practices
  • Experience with schedule analysis methodologies and Extension of Time (EOT) claims
  • Understanding of project management, risk management, planning, and cost control principles
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Strong presentation and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong negotiation and influencing capabilities
  • Ability to work effectively within complex project environments
  • High level of integrity and professional ethics
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to adapt and manage change effectively
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement project contract management strategies throughout the project lifecycle
  • Analyze contract terms and conditions to identify risks, obligations, and commercial opportunities
  • Align contract management plans with project execution plans
  • Provide contractual advice and support to Project Managers and project teams
  • Lead contract administration activities throughout project execution
  • Prepare, review, and manage project correspondence with clients, partners, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Support development of procurement and subcontracting terms and conditions
  • Assist procurement and subcontract teams during negotiations of critical commercial terms
  • Monitor project schedule and cost performance in coordination with Project Controls
  • Analyze commercial risks and opportunities impacting project profitability
  • Support contract closeout and final settlement activities
  • Manage contractual interfaces with clients, partners, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Protect company contractual rights and commercial interests throughout project execution
  • Serve as the lead contract management representative for assigned projects
  • Advise Project Managers on commercial strategy, contractual risks, and business decisions
  • Lead project change management activities from identification through negotiation and settlement
  • Coordinate contract management activities across project teams and stakeholders
  • Support Project Directors and senior leadership in managing commercial exposures
  • Guide project teams regarding contractual obligations and compliance requirements
  • Manage relationships with clients, partners, and key stakeholders
  • Facilitate resolution of contractual disputes and commercial issues
  • May supervise Contract Engineers or other Contract Managers depending on project requirements
  • Support mentoring and development of contract management personnel
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms, company procedures, and governance requirements
  • Monitor contract performance and conformance throughout project execution
  • Draft and implement project change management procedures
  • Lead management of change orders, claims, extensions of time (EOTs), acceleration claims, and delay claims
  • Monitor and manage contractual liabilities and commercial exposures
  • Ensure contractual requirements are properly flowed down to subcontractors and suppliers
  • Track project risks and commercial opportunities to support profitability objectives
  • Monitor compliance with insurance requirements and coordinate with corporate insurance functions
  • Coordinate with Legal, Treasury, Tax, Insurance, and Compliance functions as required
  • Maintain accurate contractual documentation, records, and reporting throughout project execution
