About The Position

College & Career Peer Mentors are student representatives who help create a welcoming, informative, and career-focused experience for prospective and current EKU students, families, and campus guests. Working alongside College Enrollment & Career Counselors (CECCs) and career professionals, Peer Mentors serve as a bridge between students and their academic college. They share their firsthand EKU experiences, provide peer-to-peer guidance, assist with career readiness appointments and activities, and represent their college at recruitment and student engagement events. This position is designed for students who are enthusiastic about their college, enjoy helping others, and want to develop their own communication, leadership, career development, and professional skills.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled EKU student in good academic standing.
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and ability to work independently.
  • Genuine interest in helping fellow students and prospective students.
  • Willingness to learn and accurately communicate information about the assigned academic college and EKU resources.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA requirements.
  • Ability to attend required training and scheduled events.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with campus involvement, student organizations, leadership, customer service, recruitment, or peer mentoring.
  • Interest or experience in career development, recruiting, admissions, human resources, marketing, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with resume development, interviewing, LinkedIn, or other professional development tools.
  • Strong public speaking or presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in training and demonstrating proficiency in assigned career readiness services including approved resume, cover letter, mock interview, and other career readiness appointments or activities.
  • Participating in recruitment, yield, and student engagement events hosted by the academic college and Enrollment & Career Readiness, including assisting with tours and presentations for prospective students, families, and visiting groups.
  • Representing the assigned academic college in a professional and welcoming manner while providing accurate peer-level information about college programs, student experiences, and career opportunities.
  • Assisting with college outreach, promotional activities, and follow-up communications and attending related meetings and training.
  • Completing other duties as assigned related to recruitment, student engagement, career readiness, and student success.
