About The Position

The Peer Mentor position at Cohannet Academy, located within Taunton State Hospital, is a Joint Commission-Accredited Intensive Residential Treatment Program (IRTP) specializing in trauma-informed care. This role is contracted with the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (MA DMH) to offer in-house services and treatment specifically for adolescent biological females ages 13 to 18. The Peer Mentor will convey passion for helping others with a dynamic team by bringing an energetic and positive approach while working with youth served by the program. The role utilizes the wisdom of personal experiences to support client growth in ways that others can positively connect and learn from, working in a cohesive and supportive environment alongside a team to support the provision of trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years or older.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Must have personal experience living with and recovering from mental health needs, substance use, and/or traumatic life concerns which caused challenges in one or more areas of life.
  • Must have experience as a Peer Mentor, or have successfully completed an advanced peer to peer training program (such as Certified Peer Specialist training).
  • Background and driving record checks will be performed.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree in a human services field are preferred.
