About The Position

The Peer Mentor for the Fatherhood Matters Initiative will be a key member of the team supporting low-income fathers and helping them become self-sufficient and more connected with their children and community, strengthening their children’s economic, emotional and social futures. Responsibilities will include facilitating parenting skills training and related workshops; organizing community projects; and conducting outreach and recruitment for the Fatherhood Initiative program. The Peer Mentor will be a trusted source of information for program participants, encouraging them and supporting them throughout their participation in the UAU Fatherhood Initiative.

Requirements

18 years or older at time of hire
valid GED or High School diploma
reliable mode of transportation
Valid driver’s license
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Demonstrates ability to conduct and complete work independently
Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed
Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomes
Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of and values individuals’ different capacities, cultures, and abilities
Ability to perform at high level of emotional intelligence and ability to assess and respond to individual needs thoughtfully and accurately
Consistently maintains respect for diverse racial, socio-economic, ethnic, academic, religious, and cultural backgrounds and identities.
A demonstrated history of being an effective mentor, with excellent interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

Preferred experience, relatable as a father or parent /guardian capacity that has either been disconnected from and/or had supervised visitation with a child.
Preferred, minimum of one year of relative work-related experience of proven effective team leadership with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Monitor and report tracking of participants’ overall progress and attendance, including proper documentation as required and directed.
Facilitate parenting skills training for Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4 members of the UAU Fatherhood Initiative.
Help facilitate and implement a variety of workshops for participants.
Attend and participate in weekly support groups with participants and provide informal mentoring.
Facilitate and organize community projects in conjunction with program participants.
Conduct a variety of outreach and recruitment activities for UAU’s Fatherhood Initiative. This will include street outreach activities in targeted neighborhoods, as well as at a variety of community events.
Updating department files and records accordingly.
Abide by all safety protocols and policies and procedures as outlined by UAU and DYCD.
Attend all required meetings with UAU Fatherhood Initiative leadership.
Consistently demonstrate positive leadership and act as a positive role model to participants and colleagues.
Participate in ongoing professional development as directed by the Program Director.
Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
