About The Position

SmileMakers is seeking a Collections Clerk to execute the credit and collection procedures of the company. This role is onsite in Spartanburg, SC. Requirements

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Knowledge of Serenade processing systems, Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word processing software
Function in an efficient manner with a high degree of independence
Attention to detail and negotiation skills
Proficient at typing
Bachelor’s Degree
1-2 years work related experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience
Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear
Occasionally required to stand and walk
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision

Responsibilities

Make collection calls to determine payment status
Handle accounts that have filed bankruptcy and accounts that have NSF checks
Run credit checks on customer accounts
Call customers about unapplied balances to determine if the amount should be applied or refunded
Research customer payments that do not have proper remittance information
Analyze the 120+ days past due report to determine who should receive a collection letter
Maintain “special message” notes on customer accounts
Review credit-hold reports to determine the next appropriate action
Prepare monthly bad debt list
Make calls to ensure customer satisfaction on previous complaints
Perform maintenance on contact information for billing accounts
Abide by all policies and procedures of SmileMakers and Oriental Trading Company
Support and adhere to SmileMakers’ Vision and Values Statement
Maintain regular and predictable attendance
Must be able to attend face to face meetings on short or little advance notice
Work requires in-person collaboration among colleagues and contractors
Assist with related special projects, as required
Function as back up to Accounts Receivable Clerk as needed
