About The Position

FIJ Law LLP is a Richmond Hill based law firm, delivering legal services in various areas including commercial litigation focusing on debt enforcement, and mortgage remedies. While providing high-quality legal services, we maintain a professional, but relaxed and congenial environment. We have an opening for a Collections Clerk to join our Civil and Commercial Litigation practice. While specialized training on the collections work being handled at our Firm will be provided, the ideal candidate will have a collections background, and will be a confident, organised, autonomous self-starter that is prepared to proactively work on files with the lawyers they support. We offer a very competitive compensation package with a potential for an additional commission structure.

Requirements

• A minimum of 1-3 years experience working in a similar role
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
• A calm but professional demeanor for dealing with clients regarding their accounts
• Ability to accurately listen, understand and respond appropriately
• Perseverance to maintain pressure for payment upon difficult accounts
• Detail oriented with strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
• Ability to take initiative and work under pressure
• Ability to work and act independently using good judgment when assessing difficult situations
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

• Collection agency experience would be an asset
• Previous experience in a Litigation practice would be considered an asset, but is not necessary
• Ability to work with large institutional clients an asset
• Working knowledge of QuickBooks would be considered an asset, training will be provided

Responsibilities

• Performs all debt collection duties in collaboration with the recovery team
• Identifies strategies/solutions when dealing with challenging/ delinquent accounts
• Negotiates settlement agreements on behalf of large organisations
• Answers phone calls and follows up on inquiries regarding files assigned by the Supervisor
