About The Position

The Coffee Shop Department Manager leads the coffee shop department and sets standards for quality, customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, team relations, and profitability. The manager develops and supervises the team, coordinates schedules and daily plans with store leadership, and oversees department ordering, replenishment, pricing, invoicing, bookkeeping, inventory, and pre-orders. The role also includes analyzing sales trends, preparing advertising projections, planning promotions and displays, maintaining product freshness and service speed, and troubleshooting equipment or arranging maintenance. The manager may assist in other store areas and take on special projects. The position receives direction and support from the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, and Food Service Director; it reports to the Store Director, Store Manager, those assistant managers, and the Food Service Director, and directly supervises Coffee Shop Department Employees. Employment is contingent on successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Ability to deliver outstanding customer service and inspire a team to do the same.
Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team in a fast-paced food service environment.
Ability to solve practical problems and make sound decisions involving varied factors.
Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Clear written and verbal communication with customers, employees, and vendors.
Ability to handle confidential information, including employee compensation, sales data, and inventory reports, with discretion.
Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistance.
Ability to stand and walk continuously on hard surfaces for extended periods.
Ability to work in cooler or freezer environments for extended periods.
Ability to unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandise.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required for employment.

Nice To Haves

On-the-job training and sanitation courses preferred.
One or more years of related work experience preferred.
Where applicable, ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment; required operator certification must be completed before independent use.
Where applicable, ability to safely use sharp knives and blades to cut, trim, or grind product.
Where applicable and in accordance with age and legal requirements, ability to operate a cardboard baler or compactor.
Where applicable, ability to perform repetitive motions associated with dough mixing, scaling, and proofing.

Responsibilities

Set and uphold department standards for customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, team relations, and overall profitability.
Encourage the team to greet and engage customers, lead by example, and foster a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
Help customers locate products, reach items, carry heavy purchases, and otherwise improve their shopping experience.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate department employees, and address performance and disciplinary matters as needed.
Coordinate employee schedules, daily work plans, and department goals with store leadership.
Oversee ordering, replenishment, pricing, invoicing, and department bookkeeping.
Analyze weekly and monthly sales trends, prepare advertising projections, and plan promotions and displays.
Ensure proper product temperatures, storage procedures, and freshness standards to minimize shrink.
Understand and troubleshoot department equipment and coordinate maintenance as needed.
Maintain speed of service by ensuring staffing requirements are met.
Conduct department inventory and manage product pre-orders.
Maintain compliance with the dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
