Coffee Shop Barista
About The Position
As a Barista at Hy-Vee, you will provide friendly customer service while preparing beverages, keeping the coffee shop stocked and clean, and ensuring customers receive what they need. The role suits someone who enjoys connecting with people, working in a fast-paced environment, and taking pride in doing tasks well. Prior experience is not required; training and support are provided. You will receive direction and support from the Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, Food Service Director, and Coffee Shop Department Manager. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Use basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
- Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy coffee shop environment.
- Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.
- Complete a pre-employment drug screen.
Nice To Haves
- Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding service, including learning customers’ names and making visits positive.
- Take orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products throughout the shift.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance and follow or develop a production list to anticipate daily needs.
- Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
- Check in products, put products away, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow the company dress code, hygiene standards, and policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
